embedded programming on Linux

I like to learn embedded programming with Linux on a mobile phone.
Could someone point to me where I do that ?

I'm a newbie to programming on embedded device.

Is there a cheap way ($ wise to purchase hardware)
to learn embedded programming on Linux and other platforms.

Are there hard core books on embedded programming on Linux on mobile devices ?
