Help! I am interested in creating an application that will run from CD without any installation. Part of that will be to embed a database file on the cd and access it with Java or Flash or some other language.

I need some hints to get me started - any suggestions would be great. I really don't know where to start.

Thanks in advance.

If you have an application ready, copy the executables and the database to a CD. There should not be any difference between running it off your hard disc and running it from a CD.

To get your application to the CD, you probably already know that you need to format the CD and copy files to it from your read-write CD drive.

Since when do you need to format your CD's?????

The problem as I see it is that databases like Access create lock files, so can't run straight from the CD.

Flash is a good compromise as it can read in text files. Perhaps you could dump the database in an appropriate format, but beware of \n and \r at end of lines.
