hi ,,

i have ip office 500 v1 R5 & compact flash for embedded messaging

the compact flash messaging is full and there is no space available for new messages

can I format it ?

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Put it in a card reader and erase all messages.
Or connect a serila cable on the connector at the back of the IPO and to a serial port on your PC, start a comms tool like putty and connect to the serial port speed 38400,8.N.1 and type at-debug
At the prompt type : ivm-msg-del-all > all messages are deleted
Or
type : ivm-mbox-clear XXXX > were xxxx is the mailbox ( user/group ) number to erase the contents of only one mailbox

NO. DO NOT ERASE THE CARD YET.

Its an IP500 V1 and erasing the card removes the file that makes the IP Office recognise it as being an embedded voicemail card rather than just any old compact flash.

Don't know they added it but System Status (SSA) does a good display of the number of messages in each mailbox which could help you push the problem people to clear them out.

Otherwise, the DTE route is the best option. The set of commands is more extensive and I will post when at my desk again (on a sofa having a sandwich now).

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Sorry Intrigrant - now understand your NOOOOOOOOOOOO to the reformat and your are correct on that score. However, manual deletion of everything has the same flaw unless I missed some change.

Meantime:

Start putty 38400,8,N,1
type AT <enter > you should get a prompt back
type at-debug
Use one of the below commands:
command parameter purpose
ivm-mbox-show - Show mailboxes
ivm-mbox-show nnn Show contents of specified mailbox
ivm-mbox-clear nnn Clear specified mailbox
ivm-msg-del nnn dd/dd/dd hh:mm:ss Delete specified message
ivm-msg-del-all - Delete all voicemail messages

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Well, basically you can reformat the card but there is a hidden .clp file of about 1kB in size which must be saved and restored otherwise the card is useless.
But I had no time to elaboreate on the NOOOOOOOOOOO this morning.

Is it one of those days again?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Yep, had a bad night of sleep, did not want to go to work(hangover), the cat pissed on the floor, forgot to buy bread and the coffe machine broke down.
But everything else is OK and the day went smoothly, my oldest son bought me a new coffee machine, the job was good and the cat is very sorry (I hope).
And I just watched the last missed episode of Black Sails with the cat on my lap and a cold Jupiler, nice.

Still.
DON'T EVER FORMAT A COMPACT FLASH CARD!
Do as advised with the serial cable and it will be ok.

if it is users not deleting messages then find the users with the full mailbox & make them delete everything by hand, they wont do it again :)

I suspect you will find it is actually a mailbox that no-one knows anything about, in which case you also need to correct the system programming to stop it happening again.
