I have a few users with a problem. When they call into their modular messaging voicemail box they have a number of (emails) in their box. I just had to get into a box and delete 23 emails that was in a users box.

Does anyone know anything about this. I know they can get regular voicemail or even a fax but unsure about them receiving an email. Got a few questions.

1). How are emails being sent to their VM box?

2). If there is a way how can you retrieve them?

3). How can you find out who is sending them so you can tell them to stop or block them.

4). How can you turn this option off, if there is an option?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I assume that this is a MSS message store right ?

every user in MM is an email address so all anyone needs is the internal address bob.smith@mssname.domain

1.If they are using the outlook client then they could be sending emails using the MM system and not their exchange or what ever they are using.

2. Sure just setup a MAPI account in outlook pointed at the MSS with that users info in it

3. See number 2 or just look in the SMTP logs to see where they are coming from

4. You need to see where they are coming from first as this need to work for voice mails to be delivered to users. If they are coming from outside your firewall then it should be blocked at that point.

Yes you are correct this is MSS.

That makes sense.

This is probably spam being sent, then.

Any idea on how to block this kind of stuff from coming in?

it depends on where it is coming from. You shouls setup a imap account and point it to one of the users voice mail box and see what they are first.

Good suggestion.
I will Imap their VM to an email box.
Thanks for all of your help.

I had this issue and these were basically failed attempts to send the user an email notification. Check your SMTP relay is working okay
