I have Windows 98/Office 2000 user who is connected through a VPN. Their Outlook is set up to connect to our exchange server. Whe they conncet to the VPN and then open Outlook and go to the Inbox, messages open up and then dissapear. The Inbox is progressively emptying. The messages are not going into the Deleted item folder - just dissapearing???

Sounds like they've got a SMTP / POP3 client running there and when this is offline it is set to download the mail to the .ost and delete it from the server?

I'd start there.
