will it overwrite /etc/hosts file, e.g., test.com, but i have different host name)? simply have like - (200.114.235.3 excalibur) in a line.

No it will not change the /etc/hosts file...but you need to have
a fully qualified name in it.........
You need to have an entry something like the following
200.114.235.3 excalibur excalibur.
IS that really your IP? ok...the tab and then excalibur.com will be needed or
just excalibur. So it is fully qualified...
Most users use the sendmail right out of the box without changing the configuration file. It should work without doing much unless you are sending to another machine etc... or using DNS etc....

i tried this one but maybe i need to start from scratch as i cannot fully setup email.
what i want is that i should be able to send and receive emails from/to another network. we do have DNS server and my machine was already configured on that server.
is there anything i missed out?
my aix box was defined as "tools.test" on the DNS server but originally (what's in hosts file is "emperor"
. always - i was able to send, but receiving using sendmail/mail from aix is another thing.
