Email works great but Internet just STOPS intermittenlty with MODEM

I am using a modem at home, connects fine, brand new modem (WIN MODEM UNFORTUNATELY --BUT PRICEY!--Broadxent) but this is the second modem to do this.

When connected, and when I check email in Outlook it ALWAYS checks just fine, but when I surf every 3-4 minutes is just stops! Just sits there and then decides to go again in about 30 secs. to 1 minute.

This is driving me crazy! Can anyone help?

You're really in the wrong forum for this...it's mroe of a Browser Issues topic, but....could be many things from your ISP down to tht emachine. What's the OS, version of IE? (or other browser?)

I have win98se and ie6 -- it's not the isp because I have tried several (3).

I didnt know where to put this because the Browser forum says something about issues for IT professionals, and this is not that either.
