email virus in web-based account

Hi ,
I have a question regarding email viruses. Such emails recieved in Outlook Express or an email client on your local computer can be dangerous. But if I recieve such an email in my web-based email account will it still be dangerous.
I would be grateful if you could point me to some page on how an email virus works.

These days, even web pages you look at can be dangerous as you put it..scripts run as do activex and can be malicious.

If you download anything that is attached to a web based email, you can be downloading a virus also.
