My organisation is running McAfee Groupshield 5.2 on the Exchange servers and VirusScan Enterprise 7.1 on the client PCs. The email client is MS Outlook 2000.

In regards VirusScan, would I be right in thinking I can disable email scanning on PCs if I've got Groupshield monitoring all email traffic? I would guess this is an unnecessary process. If I can minimise what's running on a PC but not compromise its security all the better.

Thanks in advance

yes, it´s possible to do that
anyways, even if there was no groupshield and the user opens an infected attachment, if the on access scan is enabled, the antivirus would detect the infected item once it is run (because it is first written to disk and then read)
the email scan option is just fancy
