I sent an email to 3 people and received a reply back from someone I did not send to. I do not even have this person in my address book. How do I find out how the email got there?

Somebody you sent to probably had auto forwarding rule set or out of office turned on.

The answer is "42"

What if neither of the other two recipients have this person in their address book?

ask the un-intended recipient if there were others in the TO or CC fields of the email. if nothing is there then it is still possible that someone BCC'd it to somone who BCC'd to to them.

if you are on a corp or own email server check the logs.
