We receive all our email on outlook express 6. When customers send me files of quark the attachment becomes a .dat file and does not want to open. Usually I have to call the customer and have them compress the file to .sit and it works fine but would like to not have to go that route everytime. We are not networked to receive emails on our macintosh so I know that doesnt help but any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Usually it's something on the other end causing that - the MS email defaulting to rich text format that screws up the attachments. I still recommend stuffing documents - I've often seen quark docs become corrupt when sent standalone.

What's the OS creating/sending these files? What's the OS receiving?

Normally I find that it's just a case of changing the .dat to .qxd and it usually works. The file itself is usually ok, but the .dat is confusing things.

i have to agree with blueark - i have this all the time

Same here. I always ask them to either add the extension before sending it or to send it as a stuffit file. Seems that the PC mail servers mess with it when there's no extension, even if I download the file from my Mac before our PCs open it.

i've written a droplet for OSX that will convert any file(s) dropped onto it - if anyone want's it just shout

Kind Regards
