email popup alert

Customer wants this when a new email arrives. Trouble is they use Outlook Express which, as far as I can see, doesn't do alerts.
I know Outlook does, but I'd rather not go that way. Does Thunderbird? Something like the Download Complete alert in Firefox would do nicely.

Hi Peter,

Thunderbird pops up a message just over the system tray when it has downloaded email. Started using Thunderbird recently on new customers machines, seems stable and fully functioned.

If you are stuck with OE you can get a sound notification when new mail arrives. Tools > Options > General > then select Play sound when new message arrives . Not as good as a pop-up but perhaps it will satisfy your customer.
