Hi guys,

Because I travel a good deal, I frequently need to transfer email back and forth from desktop to laptop. In OE this transferring process has always been a headache for me because of OE's inability to simply copy files back and forth, requiring its own Import-Export utility, which I often stumble over.

So after years of using OE, I have finally become totally impatient with it, and I'm looking for alternatives. But on the other hand I realize that stepping away from Microsoft courts trouble with "foreign" applications.

So I'm asking what people's experience is with other email programs. I need 1) easy portability of email files and 2) seamless interfacing with Windows XP.

What can you tell me?

TIA

Gil

Thunderbird is a nice client, and I disagree with your assumption that "foreign" applications court trouble. I have a number of clients that have been running Eudora, Netscape, and other mail clients for years. In fact, I see more mailbox corruption with Outlook and Outlook Express than I do those mail clients. Anyways, copying Thunderbird mail files is as easy as copying Outlook Express's .dbx files.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
