Attempting to send email alerts using SMTP and changed the settings in voicemail pro to use SMTP and not MAPI, then configured the IP address of an internal SMTP server (NOT exchange). I'm able to telnet to the smtp box from my vmail server and send messages via command line, but the IP office generated messages get stuck and fail to send out. Do I need to add any settings on the IP office System configuration for this to work?

The failed message indicates "Mailbox Unavailable. Sender Domain must have a DNS MX or A/CNAME record."

Appreciate any input.

did you go under the control panel and set it up there. There is a VM Pro icon in control panel that has some settings and then you can check the connection from there.

Yep.. Added the LAN smtp server from there, which doesn't require authentication coming from the same network range.

if you are doing email notification of voicemails, make sure that it is turned on for the user under the voicemail tab for each user and that the email address is added. sometimes a reboot of the vm server helps. also there has to be an entry in the account window under the voice mail pro icon in the control panel. i usually use vmail@soandso.com it does not have to be real but just has t be there.

if you are trying to do the email alarms option in the 3.2 software then a reboot is needed after turning on the smtp alerts.

Ah, the dummy email account in the "account window" did it. Thanks much for the help! The SMTP server was apparently rejecting the messages because of that missing value.
