Is there anyone out there who has been successful in getting Arcserve 2000 to send an email to indicate successful backups? We have tried but are constantly being unsuccesful!
use the thread titled CONFIGURE ALERTS
some useful comments. theres a batch file at the end that you may or may not be interested in. i'm working on a work around for WinNT.
Looks like CA did a poor job on the notification front, it's a shame that this has not been rectified by a service pack. CA are arrogant though, so I guess it's always worked in their opion without an issue!
We will investigate BLAT as a way round this; or Backup Exec here we come!
See the following Tek-Tips thread
thread478-539771 the link is messed up this is thread 478-539771
titled "How to configure SMTP alerts?"
I stumbled upon this thread and found an update to the alert program that user "Wiedie" pointed out and this works!!! It really works like a charm, I simply plugged in the SMTP server for our company and it works great.
I have installed the patch and sure enough smtp test emails have come through - great!
However, I set up a test backup job in Arcserve and told the job to notify me on completion, but in the alert area I could not see the SMTP plugin, just "email" (which I chose), and no alert was received after the job completed. Is there a patch that Arcserve requires to recognise the smtp plugin from Alert Manager?
If I can get this to work then the solution is a great advance on the previous Exchange system.
