Howdy,

Running CM 5.2

I have a user with a modular messaging mailbox, who is being notified that there are "email messages" in her mailbox.

I have never come across this before, and cant seem to find that feature within the class of service or in the users mailbox profile.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Seen it once. And it was because there were truly email messages in her mailbox.

Connect Outlook to the MSS for her mailbox with the MSS as the imap server and i think login is her extn or extn@mss.fqdn.company.com like it shows up in her subscriber info.

In my case, the customer set up people with IMAP access to the MSS, but they also filled in the MSS as the SMTP server when setting up the emailbox in Outlook.

Now, funny thing was that the voicemail domain in the MSS was "customer.com" and the voicemail system's syntax for names was "first.last@customer.com" which matched exactly what their email domain was.

So, when someone got a voicemail through their IMAP voicemailbox in Outlook and forwarded it to "jane.smith@customer.com", Outlook was using a default setting of "use the SMTP account of the mailbox this message arrived from" rather than "use my email/Exchange account" and Outlook was forwarding the voicemail to the MSS as an SMTP server and Outlook's formatting of the message was such that MM didn't recognize it as a "voicemail" anymore but as an "email" and therefore my customer had "no new voicemail messages and 3 new emails".

Funny, huh?

Let me know if you figured this out or not It may be what kyle555 said or a few other things as well

Thanks @kyle555

It is indeed weird.
The user is not set up with a voicemail box in Outlook.
But I understand what you are saying about forwarding the message.
Maybe the user was trying to forward it using the command prompts while using the handset... I have no idea.

I added her voicemail box to my outlook and was able to see all the "email messages"
They seemed to be appearing repeatedly through just a couple of minute intervals from one day to the next.

I cleared them out and am monitoring to see if it happens again.

Fair enough. It wouldn't be the affected user having Outlook access to the mailbox, it would be some other user having it and clicking "forward" to them in the scenario I outlined above.

Also, forwarding a voicemail from telset will never do that.

I've seen it before when you need to sync the front end database on the MAS, but it's something regular maintenance or delete/recreating the user can usually address if it was a one-off.

If it's regularly happening, maybe my 1-in-a-1000 scenario happened to you too.

This can also happen if you have email notifications of voicemail going out. If the email exchange from the MSS to their internal server fails (exchange is down or some kind of network problem) then the MSS sends a failure notification email to the users voicemail account. Similar to the message you get in outlook if you send to a bad addresses or another company whose email is down.

Thanks everyone.

so far it looks like a one off instance.
