Email message size

IF someone sends a 5 MB email with attachment to say 10 people will there be 50 MB travelling down the line or how does it work.Users are on Exchange Server.
Also is is better to add an attachment or should users rather paste their info into the actual mail message if possible?

It depends. If all 10 people are in the same database, there would be one copy of the attachment in the database. If people are spread across two databases, there would be two copies. Single Instance Storage is per database.

In all reality, it would be better to store the file in a file system, or better yet, SharePoint, and email a link to it.
