Every month, one of our users gets an email around 40mb (!) which appears to jam GWIA (im presuming its that anyway!) so no incoming email will go through until that one has - usually it takes a couple of hours! Looking through the options, GWIA is set to have 4 receive threads which are clearly not being used by our mail scanner (we use Mailsweeper)..

Is there any way to either clear/stop/pause the processing of that large email to allow the others through? or, better still, is there a way to find out why its not/make it use the other receive threads?

Simple Answer. NO.

Your connection to the net will be clogged so nothing else will be able to come in or out. That is the more likely reason why nothing else happens rather than threads. Lee Smith

i dont think its that.. we have a box which receives the mail, scans it (basically a spam/large email scanner) then passes it onto the novell box over the lan.. when the big email goes through, theres still emails appearing on the first box, but theyre not passing through the novell server.. :/

I cant imagine there is a way to stop them, other than stopping the people sending the files in the first place!

You can go to Access Control for the GWIA and limit the size of smtp incoming and outgoing mail. Set it to 5mb and this will stop the 40mb files coming through. This will stop those huge mails coming in and maybe make the user split it down. But still a few hours to send a 40mb file seems a bit slow. Maybe increase your bandwidth.
