hi, we just migrated from exchange 2003 to exchange 2010 and i have two issues that i can not figure out.

1.see email below. i can not figure out where this setting is. i have changed it in Server config>hub transport> receive connector>General>maxium message size changed from 10240 to 51200. i have done this on all 3 exchange servers. where else can i look for this setting? also is it something unique with it being a zip file?

Reason: attachment exceeds 10240K size limit (BI - 4127522 Usage and Charges 2 - 2012.zip/12201K)
Action: strip

2. i am getting complaints from users what when they send a email out of outlook it hangs. i have seen this happen but not on my client and it does not happen every time. but enough that users are getting annoyed. this happens with outlook 07 and 10.

i have a hunch it has something to do with AD but i don't have a clue on where to start looking.

Thanks Tex.

we changed that setting 4 months ago when we built the exchange 2010 servers to the max receive size to be 51200.

it was actually the first place i looked but its set way higher than the 10mb file that is getting bounced back to my user.

Thanks for the reply ShackDaddy;

yes looked at this setting a few times. here are my settings.

Max receive size (KB) = 51200
Max Send Size (KB)= 51200
Max number of Recipients 5000

Max Size per mail box database = 18
Max Retention Time (days) 7

The clue is in the error. The normal server connectors or anti-spam settings would never strip an outbound attachment from an email due to size, they would just block it. I'm pretty sure that what you are seeing is something in Sophos.

you know what? Sophos is not installed on my exchange servers. I forgot we took it off a couple of weeks ago to rule it out for another issue.

my appolgies, i should have checked before answering that post of what third party software we have...

Send from OWA - same speed issues? Need to add another GC? ExBPA say anything?

ExTRA for Outlook hangs might be worth trying too.

Also, if it's inbound traffic that you are having the problems with, see if there is a tab in Org -> Hub -> Antispam that has some attachment handling setting. I haven't looked at it much on 2010.

Issue #2 has been resolved. it was being caused by our LoadBalancer.

yes we have a smarthost to MXLogic. im sending a test email frm my gmail account to generate traffic to log this error.

The default Outbound Policy at MXLogic does not set any size restrictions, so it would be a bit strange for there to be a size blocker there unless someone has explicitly set it up at some point.

i just my cube neighbor check the mxlogic settings since that is his responsibility and as we are looking at it i see compressed set 10mb. we changed it none and im waiting for 5 more minutes before i try sending again.

Issue resolved. making that change at MXLogic fixed it.

thanks so much shackDaddy!
