Found this problem, and it's solution, which may be of interest to people:

Email like this received by root every 20 minutes or so:

It's accompanied by very sluggish system performance (and possible system hangs apparently)

Install patches PHCO_23149 and PHSS_23655.

As with all system patches - you should satisfy yourself that these patches are appropriate for your system.

Description from the HP IT Rescource Centre:
Fixes a shared library problem, which caused problems with two tools:

1) the System Info tool would abort with an &quot;incomplete&quot; status.
2) the Core Hardware Monitor (dm_core_hw) would exit and restart after each polling cycle (15 minutes), generating an event.

There is a patch for this EMS problem....look for the patch. I don't know the patchnumber but it's there, I had the same problem myself on a HP9000 L2000 machine.
