I'm on Crystal XI, Business Objects Enterprise, and an exchange email server. I'm trying to run a report to be automatically emailed. I have all of the required parameters/variables filled in correctly (destination, format, object parameters, etc.), but when I go to run the report from the central management console, I get this failure error:
Code:
Status: Failed

Printer: The instance is not printed.

External Destination: Mail the instance to " xxxx@xxxxx.com " with a subject of " %SI_NAME% ".

Data Refresh Settings: Use the server defaults.

Start Time: 6/14/06 2:27:23 PM

End Time: 6/14/06 2:27:41 PM

Server Used: file.reportjobserver

Error Message: destination DLL disabled. : CrystalEnterprise.Smtp

Is there some sort of setup I have to do before I can have reports automatically emailed? I've sifted through the help files but they weren't of much help. Also, if I haven't given enough information, please let me know so I can add to it. Thanks!

Yes, you need to set it up.

In the CMC select Servers->Reportjobserver->Destinations and enable the SMTP.

You'll need to get the SMTP info from your email folk.

Domain:
Server Name:
Port:

What's great fun afetrwards is that you can spoof email senders by placing a non-existent name in the from column of a scheduled report. I almost had an exec at Standard and Poors leap from a 40th floor once after the big boss had emailed him (well, in name anyway) about his hygiene, breaking wind and repeatedly making obscene gestures at the Womenfolk ;)

That's awesome! [thumbsup]

I followed your instruction, but I keep getting failure messages... I enabled SMTP, added domain, server name, and port. After that, it wanted a username, password, and 'from' address, which I also supplied (we made up an exchange account specifically for this).

This is the error I get when I try to email it from the report itself: address error. CrystalEnterprise.Smtp: SMTP_E_MAILBOX_UNAVAILABLE_2(550)

The error I get when trying to email it from inside an object package: Object Package failed due to a component scheduling failure.

It only fails when I'm trying to email it, otherwise it completes successfully. Am I missing something?

I'd call support but the company I now work for is small and couldn't afford the support contract. [neutral]

Hi,
That error SMTP_E_MAILBOX_UNAVAILABLE_2(550)
usually means the To: address is incorrect..be sure it is a valid E-Mail address 'known' to your mail server

It can also indicate that some permission is needed to access that mail host..check with your mail administrator..

That was it... I had an invalid email address in the CC: field. Fixed that and it's all set! Thanks for the help!
