Email Conflicts

Just downloaded the latest version of McAfee's software from their site - it had been installed on my new Dell XP system when I purchased it but the trial license had expired. After installation of the update, neither my Earthlink mail client nor Outlook are able to send/receive mail. Both hang with a 'connecting ...' message. Note that it's been working just fine with the previous (outdated) version of the software since I purchased this machine x6 months ago.

I downloaded the 'fix' (for this problem with both antivirus and privacy service installed (my privacy service is expired and inactive)) from McAfee's site last night and applied it per the instructions. Nothing changed - I'm still locked out of my email.

The only other thing I can think of to do is to remove ALL McAfee software on the system and then see what happens.

Any ideas for alternative fixes would be most appreciated. It doesn't take long to uninstall - but I really don't want to have to reinstall it over a dial-up line again!!!
