Email bodies converted to txt attachments

Last night, my Outlook Express converted all of the body text of my emails into txt and html attachments, and the bodies are now blank. All new and saved email is in this format. Fortunately, email I send still appears normally to the people who receive it. However, even though others receive the message normally, my copy in sent mail has the body as an attachment.

I have looked through some newsgroups and have found two others with this exact same problem. Seems like some freakish OE bug! I have tried rebooting and have upgraded IE5. I am now running version 5.50.4807.1700. I believe this is the latest.

I need help in a big way. I have opened a call with Microsoft. Any advice is appreciated.
