Using FP 2000 and forms.

When sending the results of a form to an email address, I filled out the "Reply to" text box, but no matter whether I just type in text, or try to use the field name, and still get just a garbage return address on the email. I've search all over the book, with no success.
Any ideas?

drowland,

It would of course be better to look at the URL in question. If you are talking about the data results posted from this is standard.

Since the form is actually being sent from your site, it isn't actually coming from the users email.

When you set the Reply to line up, make sure you use the same case as your email input field. Be sure to check the box for "Form field name". If you set the line correctly, then when you open the mail, the reply to should be the users email address.

Hope I have been of some help,
Micheal

The site is the only return address I get on email is vnt19.nj2.inquent.com
I set everything up according to FP instructions, but it just doesn't work. I contacted the ISP and received instructions to use an asp script.

Here is their reply.
Unfortunately the From field vnt19.nj2.inquent.com cannot be changed since its a global value on the server but an alternate solution would be to use an ASPMailer script to process your form. The ASPMailer script available for anybody to download allows the "From" field to be changed easily. Please goto brainjar.com for further assistants on creating the form handler.

If I try to reply to the online form email, it will go to the proper place. It just doesn't show in the Outlook Express "From" column. The "vnt..." address shows in that column.

I just keep telling myself that there is a way to do this.. I just haven't figured out what it is.

Thanks again for your efforts.

The form looks fine to me.

You have the reply to set up in the proper manner.

To clarify a point I made before, the users email doesn't show up in the (From) it shows up in the (Reply to). This is because the user didn't send the form, your site sent it. This is a little confusing, but you are actually sending the form to yourself. The user just inputs and hits submit.

The reply to is just a way to hit the reply to field choice so you don't have to copy and paste the email address. Just click it instead.

Hope I have been of some help,
Micheal
