Arcserve 2000 on NT does not support e-mail alerting to anything other than Notes or Exchange.
You can upgrade to Brightstor EB "The new version of Arcserve for NT", it does support alerting to Internet mail.

This sounds like the answer to my problem, I run Arcserve 2000 workgroup edition on a small NT4 network with a pop3 mail server, I think that it is far too complicated, sometimes my backup works, sometimes it does not, I dont know whats happening because the e-mail alert will not work on pop3,
I'm looking for a simple solution that will deliver what it promises
