Windows 2003 OS, DS TX 8.0.1

On our Intel Windows box, can we use the email adapter without having Outlook installed as part of the OS? What protocols can it use?

You don't need Outlook (or another mail client) installed on your local machine, rather you need to be able to connect to "normal" mail server (that implies TCP/IP networking, of course). Among the protocols possible we use "Internet E-mail" (SMTP/POP3) to connect to either a (small) Unix box or a (bigger) Windows box runnig Exchange.

I see. While using the adapter to connect to the mail servers, is a password for the server ID always required in the code?

Basically, what I am trying to ask is that the sercurity people don't want us using passwords in our code and i just don't see any way around it.
