Hello All,

I can't believe there isn't a way to email a shortcut to a file? I have produced a database that I want a number of people to know the location to, but I also want them to push them into setting up a shortcut to the database. I thought it would be possible to create a shortcut to the database myself and email it to everyone with a note in the email, suggesting the save the attachment to their desktop.

I can't seem to do it. Surely this is possible right?

Cheers

Normally it is, if you're using Notes Mail.
Just right-click on the database icon and choose the "Database/Copy as link" option.
Then you have a dblink in your clipboard, and can paste that into your Memo.
Any user opening that mail in a Notes client will be able to just click the link and access the db - assuming ACL and network allows it.

Pascal.

I've got nothing to hide, and I'd very much like to keep that away from prying eyes.

Sorry, I did not make this clear. I am not talking about a NSF database. I am talking about a Microsoft Access DB which sits on the network drive.

I have done this before.

I simply created the shortcut on the desktop pointing to the database on the network, then went into create a new email and made a new attachment, browsing to the shortcut on the desktop.

This then creates the attachment as the .lnk file which the person can save to their desktop at the other end.

I am using Notes 6.5.

Can I ask what version you are using, and what problems you are encountering when you are trying to attach the .lnk file?

I tried this first of all, expecting it to work. But instead the database I was pointing at got attached, not the .lnk

I believe I am using 5.1

Perhaps this is an issue with the older version then.

I just asked a collegue and he said if you do it by right clicking the .lnk and selecting "send to .. mail recipient" it sends it as .lnk

I can't believe I didn't try that method! but thats the way to do it in 5.1 anyway.

Thanks all for responding.
