I’m old now, not in good health and retired. Years back, I bought
the very first version of Quark when it was introduced. I never
became an expert because printing wasn’t my main business. But,
always enjoyed using it.

But, over the years, I have accumulated “tons” of fonts. Probably
95% I don’t use. I remember back with 0S9, once I attempted to
delete some fonts - and can’t quite remember what happened -
except that someway I screwed up .. and, had to get help to get
things back on track again.

Is it totally ridiculous to think that with X, and Quark 7, that I can
just drag some of the unwanted fonts to the trash? If not, is there
an “easy” way for an old man to do this elimination?

Thanks.

...try fontexplorer from linotype, its free, a a good font management tool...

...it has a feature whereby it will clean out os x system and user fonts automatically and store them in a folder, it leaves all the ones for system stability, find it here:

...the feature is under the tools menu once installed...

Hi BigJimm
When I first got OS X I deleted some fonts and one was required by the system, so for about 4 minutes I watched the system slowly die and had to restart from disk and reinstall the OS.
Do not drag just any font to the trash, if it is needed by the system you could screw things up.
You can use Font Book which comes with OS X and just disable or close unwanted fonts rather than deleting them. That way you won't see them in your font menus.
If you are using OS 10.4.10 and try to disable a font needed by the system you will get a warning and can cancel.
I am not sure if you get this warning with any OS earlier than 10.4.10, so if your OS is earlier than 10.4.10 than maybe Apepp's suggestion is the way to go.
