If my input data has blank fields

how do I use the sort to not use those records?

Assuming you are doing an internal sort, use an IF statement and don't RELEASE these records to the sort.

IF CHECK-FIELD = SPACES
NEXT SENTENCE
ELSE
RELEASE SORT-RECORD.
