Sorry if this post is 'ill-positioned', but the firewall forums were all too overwhelming!

I'm using IP Securitas successfully from to connect via VPN from my laptop to the compnay.

When staying in some hotels however, the VPN connection is unable to open the tunnels on the laptop.

Could it be that VPN requires certain outgoing rules (in the hotel's firewall) to allow me to connect?

Best regards

Yes it is possible that they have chosen to block certain ports or protocols (e.g. IPSEC). Most hotels require you to go through a proxy which is used to both filter traffic and get you to agree to a terms of service.

You may have better luck with an SSL based VPN client instead of an IPSEC VPN client and should discuss this with your company.
