I purchased an elite 48 w/ a 4 port electra elite vms 2 years ago. It has undergone a very light work load since my ownership, but recently the hard drive has been making noise and has been dropping out altogether. I am able to get it to boot but I am afraid it is on it's way out.

I purchased an identical IBM Travelstar 10.5 GB hdd and used ghost to clone it, but upon booting it requires an activation code. This has proved unsuccessful, is there any way to retrieve this code from the old hard drive? Someone told me that it was located in an encrypted hidden sector? Additionally he gave me the hint that it could possibly be located via a .ini file. I have searched all the .ini files to no avail of a thirteen digit code the ACTIVATE.EXE v1.01 prompt is looking for.

Additionally if anyone can shed some light on what exactly the BRU Backup software does would be greatly appreciated, and if it would help me at all with this new hard drive purchased, or if it would simply help to restore programming and messages?

Please Help. I do not want to drop another 2k -3k for a new vm cuz of the hdd failing.

Or is there a way to purchase it from NEC.

Thanks everyone and any other hints like the .ini file?

You can purchase it from NEC. If you have the exact p/n, I will get you the p/n to purchase. the new p/n is a flash drive that fits into the former hd slot.

I left a message with an Alexander via your company's contact information. I hope he gets back soon. Thx for the time in responding... Will the BRU software be able to back up all my programming and push it to the new hard drive / flash drive?

Thanks again

The BRU can backup your mailboxes, greetings, etc. But it won't back up a failed drive.... so I suggest making a backup ASAP (if the drive is running)

There is a replacement hard drive with the software loaded on it from NEC, et.al. It is very inexpensive. You will need to BRU your old stuff. CTVI's option is best; the flash vm's are definitely better than the hdd's.
