EIO errors on 2 printers - related to NICs 1

Hi,

I have 2 HP printers (8100n & 4050n) that are both getting errors on their NIC cards. They both have JetDirect J3113A cards with F/W G.08.40. They both get 86.0004 & 87.0004 errors since one is using EIO slot 1 and the other slot 2.

Does anyone know anything more about this error, so far all I can find is that it means there is an error on the board.

What do you think these printer need? Update F/W? Replace card?

There are no specific explanation for the error codes you mention on your JetDirect 600 cards however some troubleshooting steps are possible :

Does the cards show on the configuration page(s) of the printers ?

If not go ahead and try a cold reset clearing settings of both the printer and JetDirect card.

First of all make sure the firmware on the JetDirect cards are updated to the latest available (Use WebJet Admin or HP download manager)

If successfull with FW update, go ahead and start a printjob to see what happens-

If the error still persists or FW update fails, check this doc :

I updated the JetDirect F/W on our 3 hp printers this morning (GMT) and there have been no problems since.
