My company is installing a new network and we are wondering if there is any color standard for patch cables. For example, critical servers will use red, workstatation blue, ip phones black, etc. Your assistance will be greated appreciated.

Regards

Leighton

It has always been different at every place I worked at. they mostly used black and blue in the MDF's and IDF's. Orange was usually crossover for us. IP phones usually come with black cables.

I think your scheme sounds good.
I've usually used:
blue = data
green = voice
pink = DMZ
red/orange = critical eg servers or uplinks

People usually reserve a colour for cross-over, often yellow or purple.

I've seen black leads come with IP handsets, but I've always used the standard green for wiring closet voice patching (doesn't apply to IP handsets, which are obviously on trunked voice/data connections).

& this is the colour coding recommended by ACSI33

secret Pink
confidential Green
restricted Blue
highly protected Blue
protected Blue
x-in-confidence Blue
unclassified Black or grey
