EFFECTS PANEL 2

Anyone know how I can access the Effects panel in Flash MX?? I need the "alpha" effect. All I see is in "properties" panel, underneath the SOUND menu, there is a 'Effect" menu, but its grayed out. How can I un-gray it??

Again... effects can be applied only to symbols. So once you've made your graphic, convert it to a symbol then select it and the effects menu will be usable.

It is not necessary to post your question in multiple threads.

frozenpeas, thanks for the help, but I did convert my graphic to a symbol. In the "Symbol Properties" box, I selected behavior graphic, so shouldn't that have allowed me to change the "Effects" panel??

In the panel only thing I can select is SOUND, SYNC and TWEEN, and EFFECT is grayed out.

Select the symbol... not the frame.

You first have to select the frame, then the symbol on stage, and must repeat that procedure for each key frame.

I've tried that, but instead of the "Effects" panel being ungrayed, I get the "Color" box appear in the Properties window and in there I can set the Alpha to 0.
Why can't I get the EFFECTS panel ungrayed??

You didn't look under the Color pulldown, did you?

Brightness, Tint, Alpha, Advanced....

frozenpeas, I did look in the Color pulldown and I did set the Alpha in there to 0%, I was just wondering what was the diff. of the Alpha in the Color pulldown and the Alpha in the Effects Panel. Since the tutorial calls for the Alpha in the Effects panel to be set to 0%.
I am looking to create the exploading text feature I posted on the above link. The effect fades the text from 100% alpha to 0% alpha. Take a look at the above to see what I mean.
I will try this again at home, and see if it works. Thanks.

In FlashMX, the effects have been integrated in the Properties panel... that tutorial is using an older version of Flash.

So you have already found what you need under that colour dropdown.
