We are running a network based on NT 4. A few problems have come up which requires me to make some changes to the registry. I know how to change the machine's settins and mine while I am logged in, however I need to make a change to a couple of the users who are not currently logged on. Any ideas where it is kept? In thier profiles? On the local machine? Basically I need to change the ProxyServer settings in the individual's HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

Thanks,
Bob

This may be a feature that Windows 2k pushed out to all of our NT boxes, but if you have administrative rights, when you run regedit, another hive, "HKEY_USERS" should appear. From this, you have to figure out which SID corresponds to your users. From there, I assume you know to go to \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings.

If the "HKEY_USERS" is not present, I would make a .reg file updating the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" 's proxy, then place it in the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" Directory. Then when you are sure all of your users have logged on, remove the key.
:) Good luck!

anongod@hotmail.com

"Drawing on my fine command of language, I said nothing."

I've found that I have to use regedt32 in order to be able to do anything with a remote registry. For some reason, regedit doesn't work on the remote side.

I've changed some of the proxy settings in the registry and so far so good! Thanks!

I guess I need to find a good book on the registry.

Thanks,
Bob

There are not good books on the registry I know of. It appears to be largely uncodumented. The user registry on any goven machine is in a file called NTUSER.DAT and it is located in each users profile folder.
Jeff
masterracker@hotmail.com

Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most ...
