editing tables + text in word 97- page takes a while to catch up

hi,
here is my problem, i have a doc that has several tables. if i want to delete a table or paste a table i have to move the page up and down with my cursor/mouse so that the space where the table was is filled.
its like word takes a while to realize that a space has been made and to move the other tables and text up to fill the blank space.
what can i do so that the space i create is filled instantly. hope that makes sense
