Editing Sharepoint Team Services default.htm

We are running Sharepoint Team Services from our main server with Windows2000 Server as the operating system.

I have attempted to modify the default.htm from the Sharepoint root directory.

I am finding that if I simply open the file with frontpage and then save it right back to its original location, that I have lost portions of it when it is executed.

Could that be because I am not on the server when I edit it?

I am on my local workstation.
