Names in the Contacts list are in alphabetical order using the "File as:" name in the Contact General tab. However, the Contact names viewed in the Address Book do not seem to be editable. If I change a name in the Contacts List, the name in the Address book does not change?

How do I edit names (in the Name column) in the Address Book. (Contacts are selected in the upper right-hand window).

This is assuming that you are not using Exchange.

In the address book there should be 3 columns by default:

Name - Display Name - E-mail Address

The name in the "Name" column should update when you change the contact name.

The name in the "Display Name" column must be updated from within the Contact. Underneath the E-mail address is a Display Name field. Change the display name there.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I've got things working now.

Some things to be aware of:
1. To make changes to an address book entry, double click on the entry to bring up the Properties window and make the changes there.
2. If you are working in a distribution list window you can edit the properties of an entry but you will not see the changes in the distribution list. You need to delete it from the distribution list and add it back in to see the changes you made.
3. In the Properties Name field, if you use a comma delimiter (ie, Jones, Tom), Outlook makes the Address Book entry Tom Jones. If you really want the entry to be Jones Tom, leave out the comma.
4. Sometimes if you change the Properties Name, Outlook makes the same change in the Properties Display as: field. Rather annoying.
