I am hoping someone has seen this before - we are attempting to edit the file.ddf - we made a copy of the file and are trying to use the Pervasive file editor to open the file and edit it since we need to modify the server name. When we attempt to open the file we are getting the message invalid file name. I tried installing the file editing utility on a server and receveived an unknown error. This is on a pervasive 2000i version.

Any suggestions?

Thanks :)

Short answer, you won't be able to edit it directly unless you know the secret owner name.
Does the FILE.DDF really have a server name (drive letter) in the XF$LOC field? If so, you should remove it.
There are some programs for editing the file like my DDF Path Fixer ( and others like BTSearch32.

We are using a tool to edit the file from classic software. It has been used here before to edit the same file however, it seems the behavior is different currently. This is a new desktop install of pervasive client and the data file editor. Typically once you open the software you are able to go file, open and select the file.ddf. You typically recieve one error click ok and it opens the file so you can edit the server name and file paths as necessary.

I haven't used any tools from Classic so I can't say. Is there any information on the error? If not, you're best bet, if you want to use Classic's tool, is to contact them because they know what errors could be caused in various situations.
