Please help!!!
I have a view that shows data from 2 oracle sites.
Can I edit data in this view and save it so it saves to the correct site where the data originate from.

Many thanks
Dana

If you have Oracle 7.3 or better, search for triggers "instead of".
That's their use, but I don't know the exact syntax.

Hope This Helps.

I think that all depends on the permission of the account that you are logged in as. If your account has write permissions, then you should be able to make the change and have it stored in the database. Terry M. Hoey

While I don't mind e-mail messages, please post all questions in these forums for the benefit of all members.

You may write instead of trigger only if you're on Oracle 8+, not 7.3+. Your permissions can not help, if your view data is retreived from more then 1 table on Oracle 7.

Opps, that's true, Oracle 8+, not 7.3
Then you won't be able to edit the view, no way.

I thought there was a "FOR UPDATE" option in 7.3.4 -- I've never used it mind you. Did I just remember it wrong? Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.
