If you have one of the more recent versions of Crystal, you can use a Running Total (Insert->Field Object->Right Click Running Totals->New and use the Evaluate Use A Formula option to specify the criteria.
An alternative is to create your own grand total using variables.
If this doesn't resolve, perhaps if you flesh out the specifics of what you're trying to do, someone can better help.
