Not an urgent thing, but an annoyance.

I have just rescued someone's machine, with a fresh NT dirrectory etc... But for my efforts I'm still facing a boot option that lists "Windows NT 4 etc" or "Windows NT 4 VGA mode" two times each.

How do I remove redundant entries from the boot options. They look unprofessional.

The file you want to edit is boot.ini, first remove the read-only attribute. Then open with notepad and remove the two entries that point to the old directory and save the file. IMPORTANT - make sure you change the file attribute back to read-only when you are done making the change.

Yes, you will have to edit the boot.ini after changing the readonly attrib. in the system partition. More often than not this happens to be the case when your previous installation of nt exists during reinstallaton. Careful about the partition information mentioned in boot.ini for this will tell you which points to the present boot partition and which points to the redundant one. More often the first pair of options points to the redundant one..but careful this not a rule !
Hope this helps... wiedersehn
