I need to edit a file on about 600 UNIX hosts. I would like to write a shell script to do this, but am not sure how to go about it. Any tips?

Do you need to actually edit the file(s) or could you get away with replacing it(them) with the new version? (600..... sheeesh.....) Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.

Unfortunatley, every file needs to be edited and not just replaced. A co-worker thinks he has gotten it. If not I will post again with more detail. Thanks.
