EDI Shipping information

Hi all,
I have a general question related all the shipment related EDI documents available in the x12 specifications. Does anyone have a work flow or use cases document which explains the different scenarios where each of the shipment related EDI documents should be used?
I am mainly interested in knowing the functional difference between EDI shipment documents like EDI 856, 858 and others.

Any response will be really appreciated.

Hi John,

I don't know the answer to your question but would like to ask you one. I am also working on EDI for hospitals and patient billing and collections, and am new to EDI and also to x12. Do you have a copy of the x12 specifications that you can send me? I seem to be having trouble finding them.

These transactions(I gues you mean Ship Notes/Manifest, Shipent Information and others) are present in almost all X12 versions. You need SpecBuilder, In my opinion it is the best soft for wirking with EDI. Also see CommerceDesk. All information you can find at link I posted above. John Fill

I have few questions regarding EDI Transaction Formats. I'm novice to EDI/EC. Does the transaction (say #856) formats (in the

are Oracle Generated or Supplier customized.

Bcoz, I have a #856 similar to the one seen in the above URL. According to my knowledge that is very much different from Oracle EDI 856 format. So, do I have to convert/translate or create the interface file format similar to above one or write the customized code.

Note: We are not using any third party translators.
