Hi All,

Is it possible to use SSIS to parse EDI X12 file? If yes please point me to a good resource. If no, it will really help to know that so I can try another direction.

Thanks to all of you.

Greetings!

I have parsed X12N files using DTS and using Access.

BOTH were made much simpler by first rewriting the files with VBA or VB.net so that each segment started with two extra fields: filename and segment number. Unfortunately, this tremendously slows the process. For example, 1200 835 files ranging in size from a single payment to a few thousand payments (total size about one Gigabyte) takes around 18 hours.

There are other ways that are faster (not by much) but they're a little more complicated, and I haven't had time to try them.

We are about to install SQL Server 2005, so I am looking into some of the new features. I suspect the looping containers will make a HUGE difference.

I didn't answer your question, but I hope I've given some encouragement. :)
