Does anyone know if there is a EDI transaction in any standard for a BOM (Bill of Materials)?

No, but you can use an 855 and some of the FG's are suitable, also you could use an 841, specify the Report Type Code in the SP1 Specification Identifier Segment as "BM" and you have a detailed BM for just about anything.

For defining the BOM upfront for a WMS or similar, you can use the EDIFACT PRODAT (Product Data) Message which includes Hierarchical structures for product linking, groups 8 & 22 should achieve what you're after.

I've also seen the PRICAT (Price Sales Catalogue) abused for this, though I wouldn't recommend it (groups 16 and 33) as it's not really intended for that use.

Not sure how a PO Acknowledgment (X12 855) would be relevant, but an 841 should also do the job if you're a US based organisation or just want to use X12.

Or if you want to move further ahead with your integration then try RosettaNet, (this is a little more than just a format though, so read the RNIF carefully before selecting it). you could use PIP2C8 (Notification of Bill of Material) and PIP2C7 (Request for Bill of Material).

RosettaNet is a major new standard and if you work at all with the technology sector then you should really be aiming at this. (Though it is not just for the Technology Sector)

Hope that helps.
