EDI ASN Generation Slow

Recently, I stepped in for our usual EDI admin while he was on vacation, and was amazed by how long it took to generate ASN's out of Macola. 18 ASN's took over an hour to generate (ranging from 10-180 line items per order, 1,200-ish line items total).

We are running Progression version 7.6.100a. The db server's processer averages at about 30% (roughly the same as when the ASN's are not being generated) and there is still plenty of memory available. There is no network congestion.

At the suggestion of our integrator, we have purged the EDBBCIFL_SQL table (prior to the purge, it took over 2.5 hours for the same ASNs). At this point, they seem to think that what we are experiencing is standard and are unable to help us any further.

Are these kinds of generation times normal, and if so, how do the larger companies deal with generating hundreds of ASNs per day?

Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It is doing a lot of work during this time, and the time you're stating doesn't seem out of line. It's not just the number of line items, it's the number of cartons as well. It has to compile the information once for each carton.

A large EDBBCIFL_SQL is one of the biggest culprits, since it has to search through those records to find the ones that pertain to a given ASN. Since you've already purged the EDBBCIFL_SQL, you should take a look at the Progression SQL Performance Tuning Document in the customer portal. That may help a little more.

You need to purge the EDI capture file and rebuild both files in the sys manager. The barcode interface file, that is.

If you use WMS, you need to purge some of those files as well.

Are you generating ASN from your open order file or from history ? Exact does recommend often purging the various EDI file with in reason. But we do have a few client that have long order that strech out for 2-3 years on the same order and po. One clients EDI capture file has over 3 million records. Their ASN creation time is seconds. They recieve 300 PO a day and generate 200-400 ASN and invoices daily. The alway generate from the open order file. If they try to use the history table forget about it.
