I have an AMD XP 1700+, ECS K7S5A mobo, radeon 7500, this mobo has on-board sound. Something happened to my sound and one day it just wouldn't work, as in it said the driver wasn't properly installed. I inserted the cd and tried to install the audio driver (c-media) and a big red X came on the screen (with a grey back ground) and I message pops up that says "SEVERE" "Failed to execute" it seems that the computer won't let me install the driver. Even if I go into the file without using auto run it installs but stops at 95% and won't continue. I'm also running WINME....is anyone could halp me with my problem that would be great...thanks! 1st. Goto and download the latest driver files for the sound on your MOBO and then go into device MGR and completely removing (un-installing) the device. then shut down and also turn OFF the sound in bios. Restart your system and turn the sound setting back on in bios and reboot as you normally would and follow the prompts to install the driver files for your mobo. That should fix the problem.
Please let us know of the final outcome and what you did to solve the problem.

Kofy's idea worked great untill I went on the internet and then the sound went wonky again! Could it be an IRQ conflict between the on-board sound and my pci modem??? It just happened of late so it's not like this has been hapening forever... Scotty Mac a.k.a smaxted

Yes, there is a chance of a IRQ conflict. there are several programs out that you can download to get readouts on your system... or you can also check in your hardware profiles area too. One program that will give you a ton of info is SiSoft Sandra. great program and simple to use. another one that gives a lot of different info for your system inc software is Belarc advisor. the Link for SiSoft Sandra is :The link for Belarc advisor is :I keep a copy of Belarc in my computer tools bag as a good reference tool when I tinker with someone's PC. Fits on a floppy and runs on all windows platforms. handy tool to have. Hope these help you to solve your problem. let me know.

Thanks I'll give it a try and let you know on tuesday
