I have a client that has a combination of 5410 DS and 5610 IP phones. Recently a couple of people have complained that they are hearing echoing on the 5410 phones. This is recent, and no changes have been made to the system or wiring, that I know of.

Currently, the echo cancellation option is set to the default (16ms Delay). Will increasing this number help any? Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

You would be best served to put YOUR ears on the alleged echo in order to make a reasonable assessment. Then come back and describe the "echo" in fine detail.

echo on a 5410 on an outside call or talking to a 5610, outside call incoming or outgoing
outgoing local, long distance or overseas
incoming local, long distance or their 1-800 number
any of these factors can be the problem, so have them log the problem in detail

Thank you for the suggestions and guidance.

The problem is intermittent, and of course when I was there today I didn't hear it. But from what I was told it's only from outside callers. Also, I don't think it's related to the handset because I was told that some callers would leave voice messages (VM Pro) and you could hear the echo in the voice message, also, they said that a couple of times the person leaving the message made a comment that there was an echo.

So to recap;
-occurs only with outside callers
-doesn't seem to be limited to the handset
-so far only 2 people have complained
-They have 12 "analog" trunk lines, the service is provided by XO through their Flex-IP product, which is a data T1 line into a Cisco router which provides an Internet data port and a FXO port that breaks out to analog phone lines.

My feeling at this point is that it could be XO's phone service, or could be a bad connection from a cell phone or other VoIP service on the caller's end (such as Vonnage, Skype, etc).

Any other thoughts and suggestions?

I would lean very much towards this being an issue with the lines especially the way you decribe them being presented.

Dropping the production I meant not the price :)

ask your line provider to check their lines and if it is a cheapo provider then you might want to switch to one that costs a bit more and has good lines instead.
