I recently updated an IP Office 412 that has a VCM5, Analog Trunk Module and 8 4620 stations from software 3.9 to 4.1 for some features they wanted.

While the upgrade went extremely smooth, there is now a slight echo at the start of the conversation (lasting about 10~15 seconds then going away) I have been searching for a solution and have tried playing with the Echo Cancellation settings for the analog ports and the echo settings in the VCM module - neither of these have helped or in fact influenced the echo at all one way or the other.

The echo only manifests on the ip phones; the calling or receiving party never experiences any echo.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Karl P

3.9?? did you mean 3.2
4.1.which one
hope you are not running on the old 4.1.9 because with analog trunks there was a problem in conjunction with IP phones
Also see if the system is grounded, sounds odd but seems to have helped some people with analog line problems

Yes, sorry, I meant 3.2 for the old software and the firmware I loaded was 4.1 (15)

The system is grounded, the situation seems to be the echo cancellation is (in this software version) coming in much slower than the old firmware. The echo seems to "fade out" after a pretty consistent 10~15 seconds

I know on some of the other voip systems I have used the gateways have had multiple echo cancellation profiles with some of them kicking in quicker than others.

I have looked through manager and there doesn't seem to be many echo cancellation options, I am just wondering if you guys have any other tips for optimizing the echo cancallation in the IPOffice systems.

As it is right now it is very annoying.

Thanks,

Karl P

Not that this helps you now but in 4.2 they address this issue and there are more settings to play with

I had echo issues with 4.0 and Avaya sent me a private built for it, so you might want to open a ticket with Avaya for this and they can see if there is a PB available, I doubt that there are any settings right now that will help you in the short term

If your Using Analog trunks try the different Impudence settings on the trunks. They are all most likely set to default set them all to Alternative 1 and try that, if that does not work try Alternative 2 and so on.

Thanks for the information,

I will play with the impedance settings and possibly open a trouble ticket with Avaya.

In the meantime does anyone know when 4.2 might be available?

Thanks!
